Biking enthusiasts can only dream of 170 acres of a blank trail canvas. For Manistee’s Shoreline Cycling Club that dream has come true. The club has been working closely with the City of Manistee and has been given the greenlight to develop trails on 170 acres of city property, located about 3 miles from the M55/US31 intersection. The purpose will be for non-motorized recreation, namely cross-country skiing, hiking, walking/running and biking.
Three loops of wide-corridor ski trails have already been cleared and should be ready for use by this winter. Plans for the rest of the system include 5-8 miles of singletrack and a bike skills and pump track area.
The Manistee area is already widely known for beautiful mountain biking trails including the North Country Trail, the trail that passes through Michigan on its way from eastern New York all the way to South Dakota.
This new park will be great for close-to-town biking for younger riders and riders looking for an introduction into the world of mountain biking. The new Manistee Non-Motorized Trail Park has a flat terrain, which will be perfect as an intro for new riders. Riders will be able to access mellow but twisty and turny single-track. The best part is that it is about 4 miles outside of city limits of Manistee which is just a quick ride away. This new great community resource will also feature a bike park with a skills area and pump track.
We can’t wait to test it out; how about you?
